The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of agenesis of palmaris longus muscle tendon among school children in Ogun state, Southwestern Nigeria and also, to verify the symmetry of the agenesis of the muscle in relation to sex. The presence of the palmaris longus muscle tendon was determined in 564 individuals, 285 male and 279 female, with age varying from 2 to 20 years old. Four different tests were used; Schaeffer's test, Thompson's test, Mishra's test 1 and Pushpakumar's "two-finger sign" method. The data obtained were further analyzed statistically and the agenesis of palmaris muscle was found to be 26.7% (unilateral 13.0%; bilateral 13.7%). Prevalence was higher in female (32.3%) than male (21.4%) (P>0.05). Besides, we observed higher... |

ICAM-1 which is expressed by endothelial cells and leukocytes are observed as first markers in diseases such as transplant rejection, diabetes and atherosclerosis and in infections caused by various pathogens. In the present study, it is aimed to reveal the age-related changes in the expression of ICAM-1 on rats. Therefore, a total of 30 albino rats were taken at the age of 6, 18 and 24 months without gender discrimination. Rats were fed with standard pellet feed during the study. Afterwards, rats were sacrificed and tissue samples were collected from their rats, and the samples were evaluated under the light microscope by staining with immnunohistochemical method. It was determined that the expression of both aortic endothelial cells and endothelial cells... |

Disturbances of the urinary bladder functions are common in the elderly people particularly women. So, it was the aim of the present work to detect the age-associated changes in the urinary bladder that might play a role in the bladder dysfunctions. Twenty albino rats were used in the present work. They were divided into two equal groups, each consisted of ten rats. The first group included the adult rats (aged 3 months) and served as control group, while the second group was the senile rats (aged 24 months). Specimens of the urinary bladder were taken, processed and examined using the light microscope (LM) and the scanning electron microscope (SEM). Light microscopic examination of the urinary bladder of the aged rats showed marked mucosal damage, ranging... |

Oral pyogenic granuloma is a hyperplastic inflammatory lesion commonly associated to local irritation or trauma. Females are more affected than men probably due to the vascular effects of hormones that occur during puberty, pregnancy and menopause. In the pregnancy, the lesions are known as "pregnancy tumor" and tend to occur more frequently during the second and third trimester. In the oral cavity, histopathological examination is required for diagnosis, since the lesion is clinically indistinguishable from other reactive lesions and, usually, there is no evidence of bone involvement. The authors report a rare case of pyogenic granuloma with destruction of alveolar bone mimicking a malignant tumor in a 20-year-old woman in the 19th week of pregnancy. |
